Help

I need your help in tracing the history of the Stiperstones. Anything which might not mean much could be a link to the missing piece in the Jigsaw.

When the census was carried out on the Stiperstones each, or nearly every, dwelling was given a number and the census was carried out in one direction over the hill, but sometimes not. This means that i cannot place a family to a certain dwelling except by educated guess and sometimes this is impossibel.

The picture above is No 1 The Paddock (My number system). The drawing is by Clifford Lewis and shows the Meeting House (Methodist) which would have been drawn in about 1940 and was a meeting house from 1934 originally the home of Sam Edwards. It was also my great, great, great grandfathers home Thomas Pugh (details to be checked).

All this information is from a number of sources and census transcripts a very time consuming process.

Here is some information about another house.

Notice the thatch on the cottage.

Can i ask walkers on the Stiperstones to look at all the piles of stones where the cottages existed to see if there are any tile remains in the rubble without disturbing the stones or removing the tile remains.

I would like to know if the cottages were thatched, not necessarily with wheat most probably rush and heather, or tiled. Example No 1 Bleakmoor Flat was thatched while No 2 was tiled

I am looking for a photograph of the Stiperstones in colour to replace this one

Something like this but must show the purple of the Heather as it used to be not as it it now.

How heather (Erica Carnea) colour looks in close up- the Hill tended to look a slightly darker shade
