SNAILBEACH

The Harvest Supper in Snailbeach Village Hall was a very enjoyable event. The food was plentiful and very delicious with the company of the people who attended particularly enjoyable.
The auction of the items donated was great fun and even the bidding on bags of Bramley Apples was robust particularly in a year when apples are in abundance.
The auctioneer went about his task with enthusiasm (please remind me of his name) and even had bidders bidding against themselves. The numbers of bottles of spirits, cans of beer and wine will ensure some merry evenings in the future.

The ladies had designer bags, bath toiletries and woven scarves to retain their interest. The village hall has history in its fabric with memorials on its walls to past residents and also to Mary Webb the famous writer..

My memory is of 70 years ago in a smaller hall with a similar auction, in those days, mainly home grown flowers and vegetables but the smell of the display of the harvest in various flowers, especially Dahlias and Chrysanthemums gave an aroma to the hall which I still remember to this day.

An event which should be supported both in tradition, thanking our God for the harvest and supporting a good cause.

I will thank all the people who helped organise the event especially Sarah Edwards who was so helpful to me. The names of the others elude me I will thank all of them.
Well worth attending next year..
